人生の祝福

大きな事を成し遂げる為に力を与えてほしいと神に求めたのに
謙遜を学ぶようにと弱さを授かった

より偉大な事が出来るように健康を求めたのに
より良き事が出来るようにと病弱を与えられた

幸せになろうとして富を求めたのに
賢明であるようにと貧困を授かった

世の人々の賞賛を得ようとして成功を求めたのに
得意にならないようにと失敗を授かった

人生を享楽しようとあらゆる物を求めたのに
あらゆる事を喜べるようにと生命を授かった

求めた物は一つとして与えられなかったが 願いは全て聞き届けられた

神の意にそわぬものであるにもかかわらず
心の中の言い表せない物は全て叶えられた

私はあらゆる人の中で最も豊かに祝福されたのだ

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey...

I asked for health, that I might do greater things
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things...

I asked for riches, that I might be happy
I was given poverty, that I might be wise...

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God...

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things...

I got nothing that I asked for-but everything
I had hoped for Almost despite myself,
my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am among all men, most richly blessed!
